The MartinLogan Motion F20 is the top of the impressive Motion Series lineup. It’s a robust floor-standing speaker that delivers accurate, detailed sound, based around carefully chosen drivers, precise crossovers, and an acoustically optimized cabinet. This tower is voice-matched to other models in the Motion Series, and it comes in three gorgeous finishes, so you can choose one that suits your home decor.
MartinLogan’s acclaimed Folded Motion tweeter uses a pleated diaphragm that works similarly to an accordion by “squeezing” air to create sound. The F20’s upgraded Gen2 Obsidian version of this tweeter uses larger magnets for greater detail and accuracy. The new design places it inside a custom Folded Motion waveguide that enhances dispersion of high-frequency sound throughout your listening area.
Because it requires almost 90% less excursion than the typical 1″ dome tweeter, response time is drastically reduced along with distortion. The diaphragm’s increased surface area also provides wide, yet controlled sound dispersion to create a realistic and highly accurate soundstage. Music sounds detailed, but smooth and effortless, without a trace of harshness.
The F20 boasts a 5-1/2″ woven fiberglass cone woofer that delivers rich, accurate midrange performance. The bottom end is anchored by dual 6-1/2″ aluminum woofers that deliver powerful, musical bass. A bottom-firing port offers extended low-frequency response that’s also tight and tuneful. And the cabinet features new anti-vibration F.A.S.T. feet that can be installed and adjusted by hand.
MartinLogan’s proprietary Vojtkoâ„¢ crossovers are named after MartinLogan’s chief audio technologist, Joe Vojtko. The latest Motion speakers feature upgraded McCracken-Vojtko crossovers, so named for the influence of the company’s other well-known Joe — senior loudspeaker designer Joe McCracken.
No matter what they’re called, the aim is always the same: each speaker’s drivers are carefully selected or designed to operate within an intentional frequency range and specific performance parameters. That allows the crossover networks — built from high-quality capacitors and resistors — to be clean and uncomplicated, for purer sound.
