North Jersey Basement Theaters
Basement Theater Framing & Construction
We turn unfinished basements into dedicated home theaters: framing, seating risers, prewire and lighting, then the A/V install and calibration. Ray and the team have 34+ years of experience, and the consultation is free.
What We Build and Install
One crew that shapes the room, wires it and installs the system, so the theater is planned as a whole. We coordinate with your builder or contractor on the rest of the basement.
Walls and Soffits
Custom framing for the theater walls, ceiling soffits and bulkheads that hide wiring and give the room its shape.
Seating Risers
Raised platforms built to the row depth and height your seating layout needs, so every seat sees the whole screen.
Prewire Before Drywall
Speaker, projector, network, control and lighting wiring run while the walls are still open and easy to reach.
Screen Wall and Equipment Closet
A framed screen wall with in-wall speaker locations, plus a planned spot for the rack so gear stays organized and ventilated.
Sconce and LED Lighting
Wall sconces, cove and accent LED lighting planned and wired in, so the room can dim down for movie night.
A/V Install and Calibration
After the finishes go in, we install the projector, screen, speakers and electronics, then tune the system.

Framing the Room
Every theater starts as bare studs and joists. We frame the walls, the soffits and the screen wall so the room is shaped for sound, picture and cable runs before any finish goes up.

Building the Riser
The seating riser is built by the crew to your layout. Getting the height and depth right early is what gives the back row a clean view of the screen.

Prewiring Before the Walls Close
This is the step that matters most. Speaker, projector, network and lighting wires go in while everything is open, and the in-wall speaker locations are set on the screen wall.

Finishes, Lighting and the Finished Theater
With the walls painted and the carpet down, sconces and LED lighting come alive, and the A/V gear goes in and gets calibrated.

How a Basement Theater Gets Built
Planning and prewire come first, so the finished room looks clean and works the first time.
- 1
Free In-Home Consultation
We walk the basement with you, talk through how you will use the room and look at ceiling height, ducts, panels and where the gear can live.
- 2
Layout and Plan
We lay out the screen wall, seating rows, speaker and lighting positions and the equipment closet. Blueprints help here, and you can upload them.
- 3
Framing and Riser
We frame the walls, soffits and riser, coordinating with your builder or contractor on any trades and approvals that are theirs to handle.
- 4
Prewire and Wall Prep
All wiring goes in before drywall. We walk the room with you so every speaker, sconce and outlet is where you expect it.
- 5
Finishes and Lighting
Paint, trim, carpet and sconces go in. We advise on the details so the room looks as good as it sounds.
- 6
A/V Install and Calibration
We mount the projector and screen, set the speakers, connect the rack and tune the system, then show you how to run it.

Basement Theater Questions
Straight answers before you start.
Do you handle the whole basement build?
We handle the theater side: framing the theater walls, soffits and riser, prewiring, lighting and the A/V system. For permits, electrical service and other trades, we coordinate with your builder or contractor.
When should the prewire happen?
Before drywall goes up. Once the walls are closed, running new wire is far harder, so call us while the framing is still open or even earlier, at the plan stage.
Can you work from my blueprints?
Yes. If you are finishing a basement as part of a larger build or renovation, upload your blueprints and we will plan the theater around them.
How big can the theater be?
Legacy Smart System takes on projects from a single room up to 20,000 sq ft. The free consultation is where we size the screen, seating and speaker layout to your basement.
What speaker and screen setups do you install?
Setups from 5.1 and 7.1 to 9.1 Dolby Atmos and 11.1 immersive, with front projector and screen installation, 4K and 8K projectors, and in-wall and in-ceiling speakers.
